@Work

Special Report:TROUBLE AT THE OFFICE?

-Work-Life Balance
-Staying Creative
-Toxic Bosses
-Rigid Bureaucracy
-Generation Gaps
-Time Management

其中在對 Good to Great(中譯「從A到A+」)的作者Jim Collins的訪談中節錄了他一段話:

“The imperative is to manage our time, not our work. This is why the whole question of balance and finishing our work is insane. There are only 24 hours in a day, so what difference does it really make if you work 10 hours or 14, given that there are a thousand potential hours of work? The real question is the incredible rigor of what goes into the hours you allocate.

As I look at the most effective people we’ve studied, a “stop-doing” list or not-to-do list is more important than a to-do list, because the to-do list is infinite. For every big, annual priority you put on the to-do list, you need a corresponding item on the stop-doing list. It’s like an accounting balance.”

A not-to-do list is more important than a to-do list.

What Got You Here Won’t Get You There(中譯「UP學」)的作者Marshall Goldsmith寫的短文裡,列了一些 “advice for the young that transcends age”(很明顯不是寫給偶看的,因為偶是幼稚的老頭子不是早熟的年輕人XD)

-It is tough out there, and it’s only going to get tougher.
-Forget about security.
-Like it or not, even if you start out with a large corporation, you are going to be an entrepreneur.
-Make peace with this reality, and your life is going to be a lot better.

-Forget about taking a year off.
-Don’t spend your adult years “finding yourself”.
-Unless you are rich, don’t buy the flat-screen TV. When you are poor, live life as a poor person; don’t try to live like a rich person.
-And, like any great entrepreneur, invest your time and money in your future.

Worst Boss Trait:30% of white-collar workers think incompetence is what makes for a bad boss.

ARE YOU BEING A JERK? AGAIN?
If you are, it may be because you’re following a bad leader.
